W.A. "Bill" Knowles, began working for Salt Lake City in 2000 as a liaison between the city and the 400 South business and property owners prior to the construction of the Utah Transit Authority University TRAX light rail line. Bill had just retired in 1999 from a 30 year business career - the last 20 years owning and operating his own multi-state food brokerage business. As a retired businessman he was able to bring a unique perspective to building compromises between the existing businesses and the city's construction project. After completion of the University Trax project he continued to work in a similar capacity as a private contractor/consultant for Salt Lake City and the Utah Transit Authority on several large development projects, including the City Creek Center, the Airport/North Temple Light Rail Project, the Sugar House Streetcar Project, and the Eccles Theater/111 Office Tower Projects. He has also assisted several other communities with similar projects, both locally and in the West and Midwest.
Bill is currently assisting Salt Lake City as an ombudsman to business and property owners through the numerous development & transportation projects currently underway in the Sugar House area and in a similar capacity for the City of South Salt Lake. He continues to assist the Utah Transit Authority with community outreach in multiple transit projects being proposed along the Wasatch Front including the Provo/Orem Transportation Improvement Project, currently being constructed in Utah County.
